Breast reduction recovery - breast reduction surgery

After your breast reduction surgery procedure you may feel some pain for the first couple of days while you recover especially when you move around or cough-and some discomfort for a week or more. Your plastic surgeon in Thailand will prescribe medication to lessen the pain and speed up the breast reduction surgery recovery procedure.

The bandages will be removed a day or two after your breast reduction surgery procedure, though you'll continue wearing the surgical bra around the clock for several weeks during breast reduction recovery, until the swelling and bruising subsides.

You can expect to wear bandages for about two days after r breast reduction surgery procedure. Activity should be kept to a minimum for a week or two. There should be no heavy lifting or pushing for three or four weeks during recovery procedure. For extra support, a special soft surgical bra or athletic bra will be recommended by our surgeon.

You may perform light activities during the first week but you will not be able to raise your arms higher than the head and you may feel tired as your body learns to adjust and heal. You should certainly avoid lifting heavy luggage as the full breast reduction recovery process takes a month after breast reduction surgery before you can resume normal activities such as sport etc.

If your breast skin is very dry following breast reduction surgery, you can apply a moisturizer several times a day, but be sure to keep the suture area dry.

Your first menstruation following breast reduction surgery may cause your breasts to swell and hurt. You may also experience random, shooting pains for a few months during the breast reduction recovery process. You can expect some loss of feeling in your nipples and breast skin, caused by the swelling after surgery. This usually fades over the next six weeks or so. In some patients, however, it may last a year or more after a breast reduction procedure, and occasionally it may be permanent.

Although you may be up and about in a day or two, your breasts may still ache occasionally for a couple of weeks. You should avoid lifting or pushing anything heavy for three or four weeks after breast reduction surgery. We will give you detailed instructions for resuming your normal activities.

Most women can return to work and social activities in about two weeks. But you'll have much less stamina for several weeks, and should limit your exercises to stretching, bending, and swimming until your energy level returns. As mentioned above you will also need a good athletic bra for support after braest reduction surgery.

You may also be advised to avoid sexual activity for a week or more, since sexual arousal after breast reduction surgery can cause your incisions to swell, and you should avoid anything but gentle contact with your breasts for about six weeks.

A small amount of fluid draining from your surgical wound after a breast reduction procedure, or some crusting, is normal. If you have any unusual symptoms, such as bleeding or severe pain during breast reduction recovery , don't hesitate to call us and we will advise.
